What VOC is about

This year my class has been given the opportunity to do level 1 VOC (Vocacional) in VOC we have made 5 projects. We have made a dog kennels, planter boxes, chicken koop, traleces and we are working on picnic tables for the park down in Kawakawa. There are 22 credits available. This class is good to learn basic hand tool skills  and the teachers are cool.

We have had the opportunities to create & build a chicken coop, which we were able to get some of our material from our neighbors next to our kura for free & we used these recycled materials to build our own chicken coop too. We had to learn how to protect & look after our 12 own breed chickens & we also run a little shop for selling our eggs & made some money.

Our next project was that looked at some ideas and came up with building some dog kennels. We built them by using scrap wood and pallets. We were able to sell them and help out the  Kawakawa Animal Rescue Centre.

We looked at some ideas that could also help out our community and school.  We decided on designing & building some garden beds that we made out of facia boards and recycled used wood from our school and we were able to help out our school garden by the shed near the basketball court.

Last term for VOC (vocational) we were tasked to make 4 dog kennels that are big enough for an average sized dog. Firstly we had to study the legal sizes and materials that are appropriate for a dog to live in.

The second thing we did was find a design and draw it. The design had to be suitable for the dogs to live in and a kennel that will not allow any water to get in. We also had to make sure that the roof was on a lean so that the water from the rain will just roll off because if its a flat roof the water would just sit there and rott the roofing materials.

science fair

my science fair was hunting headz we are doing a bottle rocket experiment we are seeing which chemical reaction will work best

we tried the baking soda first and it went pretty high but we needed heaps of baking soda and vinegar. But the pump went higher the the baking soda so our conclusion is the pump is better then baking soda.
